The Senior Adviser on Security and Humanitarian Response of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, Mr. Gary Jones, is in Venezuela on an official visit that he will make to our country from September 4 to 13, with the aim of finding strategies to strengthen responses to the complex socio-political and economic situation that Venezuela faces.
Mr. Jones, who has an extensive diplomatic career, has been a focal point for humanitarian action and the defense of human rights, especially for those living with HIV in countries around the world that have experienced conflict and post-conflict situations.
During his visit to Venezuela, he will visit public hospitals and hold meetings with various health professionals and members of civil associations, in order to exchange experiences on the current situation in Venezuela, especially those related to the distribution of antiretroviral drugs. The objective of this “Master Plan” is a strategy designed to dictate new guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of HIV-AIDS, with the intention of overcoming the health crisis that Venezuela is currently experiencing.
