Within the framework of the X Conference of the International AIDS Society 2019, which is being held in Mexico City, local and international organizations related to the implementation of programs based on the defense of the human rights, health and dignity of people living with HIV, were present in auditorium 1 of the Congress Unit of the National Medical Center Siglo XXI, in the Mexican capital.
The event, called “Learning and sharing the power of communities”, was organized by Mary Ann Torres (ICASO, Canada – Venezuela), Carlos García De León, Rodrigo Moheno (United for a Living Mexico Foundation), Bruno Spire (ISERM, France), Javier Hourcade (Global Network of People Living with HIV, Argentina).
To begin the event, two Zapotec muxes lit a candle in honor of people living with HIV and to remember all those who died as a result of AIDS.
In this same vein, various activists and volunteers from the sex-diverse community were also present, such as Mónica Parra from Venezuela.
Several common ideas shared by all those present at this discussion converged on achieving better results in the search for solutions to the HIV crisis in Latin America and in the search for more efficient measures for the distribution of antiretrovirals in the region.
The event was attended by Kevin Osborn, executive director of the International AIDS Society (IAS), and important figures from the political and scientific world, such as Congressman Temístocles Villanueva Ramos, a highly recognized political activist in the field of LGBT activism, and Dr. Brenda Crabtree, local scientific chair of the IAS 2019.
