PrEP Program
Proyecto Once Trece PrEP Program: Prevention and Comprehensive Care
Proyecto Once Trece developed a comprehensive PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) program to prevent HIV transmission, aimed at anyone who wishes to protect their sexual health.
The program focuses not only on providing PrEP treatment, but also on offering comprehensive, personalized care to those who decide to start this form of prevention.
Before the medication is dispensed, a comprehensive medical consultation is conducted with a trained healthcare professional, during which the individual’s health status is assessed, diagnostic tests are offered, and detailed information is provided on the use of PrEP, its effectiveness, and the importance of treatment adherence. This personalized approach ensures that each individual receives the necessary medical follow-up and ongoing support while using PrEP, promoting safe sexual practices and encouraging everyone to take control of their sexual health through care centered on well-being and respect for their needs.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a highly effective preventive strategy for reducing the risk of HIV infection.
It involves the daily use of an antiretroviral medication by people at risk of exposure to the virus, as part of their sexual health care. When taken consistently and as prescribed, PrEP can reduce the risk of sexual transmission of HIV by more than 90%, and in the case of people who inject drugs, by up to 70%.
This treatment works by creating a protective barrier in the body that prevents the virus from taking hold in the event of exposure. PrEP is safe and well-tolerated by most people, although it is important to consult a doctor beforehand to assess eligibility and ensure that you are in good health before starting treatment. In addition to its effectiveness, the use of PrEP is part of a broader HIV prevention strategy that includes condom use, regular STI testing, and access to information and education about sexual health.
This preventive tool empowers people to proactively protect themselves, promoting greater autonomy and control over their sexual well-being.
