On June 27 and 28, 2019, the 22nd National Conference on Infectious Diseases, titled “Strategies for Addressing Infections in a Country in Crisis,” was held in the auditorium of the Hospital de Clínicas Caracas. The event also marked the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Venezuelan Society of Infectious Diseases.
This important conference brought together a group of influential and prominent Venezuelan doctors who shared valuable insights on health-related topics through presentations and panel discussions.
Several scientific papers were also submitted, and the Once Trece Award was presented Once Trece the best research on HIV. The winning paper is titled “Mortality in Hospitalized Patients Diagnosed with Human Immunodeficiency Virus,” authored by the team from the Infectious Diseases Department at Vargas Hospital in Caracas. The authors of the study were Drs. Carlos Pérez, Ana Guillén, Joseph González, Severis Caraballo, Estiven Silva, Manuel Guzmán Blanco, and Mario Comegna.
The sole purpose of the award is to encourage national research on HIV infection.
